Design thinking coach and UX/UI design for a mobile app

Hiking is the cheapest way of being outside of home. it is accessible for everyone, affordable and it is everywhere, opportunities are endless.

but how can someone find the best route for hiking, maybe biking or any route for non-motorized traffic.

Our client needs a mobile application to give its users the opportunity to look and find their desired routes and sightseeing.

Porturism: A project to cover all

This project is a part of a class project, everything from business ideation to competitive analysis to market research, and from prototyping to usability evaluations were done within the scope of the course.

Our project was about research and design of a mobile app that is based on GPS information and gives you information about all available hiking, cycling, … routes in the searched location. It also has the option for choosing the accommodation and camping sites on the route. Our target country is chosen to be Portugal.

Design a survey to collect data

The designed survey showed that most participants are in the age range and considered to have a stable job with a sufficient salary and good health conditions.
The majority of them spent time outdoors, at least one time per week. Results also show that 91% of people prefer to spend their time with a company.
Among the preferred activities, watching movies, relaxing on the beach and hiking are among the top three hobbies.
It also shows that private transport (car) is the most popular way of transportation, which can be due to the low quality of public transport, high price, or low accessibility to nature destinations.
Everyone in the survey prefers private accommodation, including hotel or rental apartments, no one likes to share a property, that can also come from their sufficient income.

Birth of "Porturism"

Our project was born through a design thinking workshop; after deep research on market needs, we had a design thinking workshop, which every team member received an overview of obtained information and we went through an ideation workshop. as a result of this ideation workshop, "Porturism" mobile app was born

Porturism is a mobile app that is based on GPS information and provides its users the information about all available hiking, cycling, ... routes in the searched location. It also has the option for choosing the accommodation, camping sites, and grill stations on the route.

The added options were based on user needs, obtained during the user survey and user interview findings.

User interviews and empathy map

After a user interview with end users, we were able to identify user pain points and form a empathy map, in order to prioritize the app content and functionalities.
